Yes, you can. It's on the hard drive. Make sure the service technicians do not plan to wipe your hard drive prior to returning your laptop to you. A good tech won't, but the bozos at places like Best Buy often do.

i believe you can, as your data is stored on the hard drive , your motherboard is like a chassis in a car, it holds components. The hard drive stores data, but i would still back up all files before performing this major surgery. lots can go wrong unless you have a pro do it.

as long as you can still access the data you can save it. if the hard drive is still fine you may not need to back up the data. but just to be sure create copies of all the things you want to keep and put them on a CD or another computer. to put it on a cd you need to create a data cd, most computers that have CD burners now come with programs that allow you to make data cd's that way you can be sure that nothing is lost.

Yes--your data is on your hard drive but when the mother board goes out , it usually takes the processor with it. In that case, a new processor may not recognize your hard drive.
