I am using an old usb (MODEM BT voyager 50) If I changed this to a more recent model could this up my connection speed (288/576). Also is there anything that I can do with my PC to assist the project. BT say that the line is OK for 2Mbits

I have a Netgear router which sends the signal into my kids' computer room which has 2 identical Dell computers. One of the computers gets a good signal & the other doesn't. They are about 2 feet away from each other and the computer that is farthest from the router is the one with the best signal. Is there any way to get a better signal on the other computer? It is causing a lot of conflict in the house =).

I'm getting an Ipod Touch for christmas this year. It says that you can go on any website as long as you have WiFi connection. My question(s) is this - What is the rough cost for a WiFi router or whatever it's called.

Do you have to pay monthly cost after you buy the WiFi router?

What are some good wifi routers that are pretty cheep?

Thanks in advance.

hi,

I have a dhcp connection.
I have a computer with 2 ethernet cards on it.
eth0 and eth1(I've added eth1,a realtek).
I put the interwebz cable on eth0 and it works using the
following script to aquire an IP.
Code:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether mac
ifconfig eth0 up
dhclient3 eth0
and I get an Ip for eth0 and all works well,I can ping,I can access
the interwebz no problem.
however,if I switch the cable to eth1 and I do
Code:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth1 down
ifconfig eth1 hw ether same_mac_as_for_eth0
ifconfig eth1 up
dhclient3 eth1
it tells me it has acquired an IP and all,but when I do
ping www.google.com I get unknown host www.google.com.
I also must note that there are no physical problems because
the led on the eth1 is blinking and its alive.
is there some kind of default ethernet interface wich I must set ?
what is the problem ?
why doesn't eth1 work like eth0 works ?
thank you

my dorm room has low signal strength for wireless from the college. i was wondering if someone could tell me of a product that will sort of boost the signal. obviously i can;t tell the college to broaden their internet range so i need a way to take the incoming signal and make it stronger. i know of one product that does it but you have to connect to it with a usb cable which means it won't be wireless any ideas?

Freshly installed ubuntu from that awful piece of junk called windows vista, and I have been having trouble getting my wireless connection to work. It is fine if I plug my laptop into my modem, but using my wireless card has no effect, it just keeps asking me for my keyphrase over and over, even though I know the password is right for the connection. What should I do?

I cannot start up or get wireless broadband working on my now 4 month old PC and two year old desktop. Both run Microsoft windows. Laptop is Vista and Desktop is XP.

I have tiscali broadband and that's okay.
Wireless is for the laptop but I cannot get it started either with a router or with a modem and router.
I cannot get the desktop to accept modem/router or router alone.
Nothing works.
Yet Currys tell me that they work and are used by households.
The laptop is useless without the internet and I am not sure what is going worng.
Installation works on the desktop but will not work afterwards.
Installation will not work even on the laptop.
Anybody able to help?
Technicians gave me such a labryrinth of explanations that I returned their make.

I want to get a wireless printer -- is it possible to have it upstairs when the modem/router are downstairs? I have a wireless internet, but do I need to set up a wireless network in order for the printer to work? I'd like my laptop to be able to connect to the wireless printer (and keep the printer upstairs) even though my desktop is downstairs.

Thanks for the help!

I want 2 home wireless networks--G for kids and N for me. I have 9 devices needing ethernet access points--Tivo, PS3, Vonage, etc. Will the following work?

I connect a basic switch to my cable modem, attach a G-wireless router to one of the switch's ports and N-wireless router to another. With the wired ethernet access points on the switch and two routers, I should have enough to connect all of my devices.

My kids will only be set up to use the G network and share files on it. My computer will be set up with access to the G and N networks and able to access files/fully monitor both.

Would this work? Is there something better? Could you attach the N to the cable modem and then the G and a switch to the N ports? Or could I just use an N and larger switch, and limit the kids access to my computer/files through software/network setup?

I need to buy a switch and N router--any recommendations on good ones from a local CC, BB, etc?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

So my sister got me a router (Linksys cable/DSL router with4 port switch) I was trying to connect it to my computer but I found that the cable it came with that's supposed to be connected to my computer is too big for the small jack it has in the back. I know that the phone cable fit in there when I used to have dial up. Is there some sort of adapter I can get so that I can fit the cable for the router into my computer through the phone jack? I'm not very good at all this hardware stuff. Thanks in advance!
