I have cable internet connection which uses a router. My internet connection is down very often through out the day every day. Everytime it is down, I would have to unplug the internet cable connection from my router, then replug it in again, over and over and over, until my internet connection works again..... What is wrong with my internet connection? Do I just have a defective router or is it my internet provider's fault ? Which means, I should call my internet provider about this?

Long story short, I don't have any security set up on my wireless router (don't ask why, again, long story), and I will not have it up for another couple of days. I HAVE changed the admin password, however, so no one can do anything with that. When I go look at who's connected, there's like 5 or 6 devices/computers listed that shouldn't be there. It gives me their IP addresses and their MAC addresses. What are some fun things I can do to these people so that they won't want to connect to my router again? Any ideas? Thanks!

My dad's laptop can be connected to the internet and he can use his yahoo messenger but for some reason he can't use internet explorer. it gives him an error message and 3 different options and he said he can't get his default webpage to come up or any webpage to come up. it says that it can't connect to the web. Anyone know what could be wrong and a simple way to put it to him? (he's computer illiterate, lol)

I had my internet connection suspended because of excessive downloading. When I told them I hadn't downloaded anything they told me that just because I didn't do it that someone else nearby by neighborhood could use it just the same. I am wanting to setup a password on my connection so hopefully that will help me secure it. If anyone can help me setup a password I would greatly appreciate it.

I subscribe to a newsgroup service and admittedly download alot. I find my ISP continually throttling my connection over the past several months in what seems to be a cat and mouse game.

Several months ago, my downloads from my news provider were fast and great. Then they started to become slow. I tolerated it because I had no reason to suspect throttling.

Recently my news provider set up a new server cluster. Upon changing clusters I noticed a massive improvement in speed. This lasted for 2 weeks and now it is slow again. This evening I changed my config so as to use a different port and it is fast again.

In your opinion, what recourse do I have with my provider? I would go to another carrier but I don't have another broadband option. DSL is available but it requires a phone line with tone. I do not have a phone line.

If I call them up and ask to speak to a manager, what do you think I should say?

I have a VPN connection or (virtual private network) here at home. It allows for a dicount DSL connection throu a University. Anyways, if your not formiliar with a VPN connection, it is a way to connect to the internet. In order to connect i am required to enter a username and password provided by the university. That then "dials" the network, checks the username and password, and connects me to the internet. Here shows my problem, in order to connect i need to (in my understandings) do one of 2 things. Run the program on my psp/ps3. Or 2. connect to my computer via wifi and use my computer as a sort of proxy. Option one is not possible so im left with option 2. Also, I can connect to my wifi connection but cant us the internet connection. without the program. If anyone out there can help, or if you just have an idea thanks for your input.

-Thanks 4 ur help-

I'm thinking about buying a wireless router for my house ( yes, I know, linksys is the best). I have a laptop and the only thing I want to know is if you need to only set up the router on my laptop first and then disconnect and you'll have a signal or are there other steps to be taken?

I have a router and 2 computers connected to it.

When I go to one of those "Check My IP" websites the ip it shows is 74.236.***.** (I have starred out the last part of the ip just in case posting your ip is not allowed here, or something).

When I go to the command prompt and type in ipconfig it shows:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.75.40
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.75.1

I use that 192.168.75.1 address to access my router's web interface. I go to the status page of the router settings. It shows this:

Internet IP Address: 192.168.1.97

On my old ISP, it would show:

Internet IP Address: 24.blah.blah.blah

y'know, like a normal ip address beginning with 24. And it would be identical to the ip address that would come up on those "Check My IP" websites.

But with my new ISP it's not like that. My router is set up just like before with the old ISP

I'm in a dorm and I want a wireless router for me and couple of my friends using the university's wired connection. We can get in trouble if someone detects it and reports it. Is there a way that only my friends and I can only connect to it without others even seeing we have a connection available?

My roomate screwed up my computer and took the disk and manuals. I need the set up instructions and the driver for this model. By the way Linksys does not have this driver for download on their website. Any help would be appreciated. If you have the quick reference guide that would be helpful as well. Since the manual they have for download does not include this. Thanks again!

I want to be able to access Wi-Fi at home on my iPod Touch.

All I have is a 2Wire DSL Router (2700HG-B) from SBC, I know that I'll need a wireless router if I want to get a hold of Wi-Fi on my iPod but I'm not really sure how wireless set up works...

Do I buy the wireless router and connect it to my 2Wire modem
and enter in all of the details needed or do I need to buy a wireless adapter as well?

I only need the wireless router to access wifi on my iPod, all of my other computers are connected to the internet via ethernet cables.

I'm also kind of fuzzy on which kind of wireless router to buy...
