I have Belkin 802.11 b/g wireless router and I have 4 laptops in my room. The problem is I'm unable to connect to more than 3 laptops. I can connect to any of the 3 laptops but not more. What I have to do in order to connect all the laptops. What is Channel in a router. It shows 11. What that exactly mean.

I want to be able to shutdown my sons laptop with my laptop. We are on the same wireless network, and I have his username , IP address and everything. But when I try to find his computer. (Name Frank.), it says network path not found. I also tried various programs and Computer Management tool. None have worked. Does the remote shutdown feature work with only the fact that you are on the same network? (Network is secured)

Since yesterday, and for no apparent reason at all, my computer keeps losing internet connection (but local still stays). At what seems like completely random times, the computer disconnects from the internet and when I put my mouse over the network icon in the task bar, it says Local Only. Not only that, but even when I do have full connectivity, the internet is extremely slow, and I can't seem to maintain a stable connection. I'm using cable internet, I have a router, and I'm running windows vista. I'm pretty sure its not the router because I connected the modem directly to the computer, and it got even worse. I've tried disabling it and restarting my modem and router many times with no luck, and I've tried disabling my firewall. My ISP says my connection is strong, and yet the internet is acting so poorly. This just started happening yesterday morning, and I'm completely stumped. Can anyone lend a hand?

So, starting about a month ago my DSL connection started disconnecting every 15 minutes for about a minute and a half. It got really annoying so i contacted the company (frontier) and they told me my modem was fine and i was craze. I bought all new cables and that did not help. It confuses me because i have my pc hooked right into the modem and that is hooked right into the DSL/Phone jack. This problem gets really annoying when trying to play games online. Every 15 minutes or so it disconnects from the seerver. AND GET THIS. THE PROCESS IS COMPLETELY RANDOM. sometimes it happens 2 minutes later, and sometimes i have had 3 or 4 hours of good browsing before it shuts off. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED.

I just got a laptop and as soon as I turned it on in my home it connected to a wireless network. i have Comcast high-speed internet hooked up to my desktop with an Ethernet cable, and it is an Arris modem that my phone connects into as well. Since I do not have a wireless router, I am assuming I am using someone else's internet connection? I live in apartments so there are definitely people in close proximity. The connection is called link.sys if that means anything. Thanks!

Oh, and I asked ths already sort of, but to get my own connection I just need a wireless router for my cable modem, right? My wireless card is a Broadcom 802 11b/g WLAN if that helps. Any suggestion on a router and do I need one for sure if my internet already works?

Can I get in trouble for using this connection?

i have optimum online and i have the modem they gave me connected to a linksys wireless router and to my desktop computer. When i test the speed of the connection from the desktop on testmy.net i get 1 star which is slow. When i disconnect the wireless router its 5 stars. Do you think if i get a gateway instead of having a modem and wireless router it will speed up my connection.

Currently, DSL is connected to my desktop through the use of an ethernet cable only (no Bell South router) and I purchased a wireless router for connectivity to my laptop. I attempted to install the BellSouth DSL software on my laptop but have discovered that the DSL software does not support Vista (only goes up to XP). Are there any workarounds to get it to work? Need as much detail as possible, I'm a newbie at this. Thanks.

Where my bf lives, there are like 3 different connections from other neighbors but the connection is really low. All 3 connections are locked anyways. I saw on his connections and one of those three when I pressed connect, I noticed there was a password. I pressed connect and it said connected with little or no connectivity. Once it says connected, those that means that is the right password? Can a password appear there by itself? I asked him how he got the password and he said he has no idea and that he doesn't even know about that stuff. He said that that connection used to be opened before but then they changed it to locked. Is there a way that the password can appear there by itself?

I was just wondering if it is actually ILLEGAL to connect to some one else's insecure wireleness network. i.e. you dont need a pass word or anything?

Can the host acutally see your computer logging onto his/her network or it just says a user has logged on the network and nothing happens after wards?

thx

I have a Compaq Presario V6500 series, it has an internal wireless card of some sort (not pcmcia). I need to boost the reception to reach a neighbor's router, it sort of works sometimes with my Sony Vaio S460 but the Compaq has weaker reception. And yes, I've talked to my neighbor - they said it would be okay, I tried to get a cable/dsl line but cannot get service at the moment because this is a new area.

Can I buy a router and hook it up to my laptop, would it work as an antenna/signal booster? Or is there some kind of external antenna I can buy for an internal laptop wifi card? Any solution will be gladly recieved, I would buy internet but can't :( and I am desperate.
