Since yesterday, and for no apparent reason at all, my computer keeps losing internet connection (but local still stays). At what seems like completely random times, the computer disconnects from the internet and when I put my mouse over the network icon in the task bar, it says Local Only. Not only that, but even when I do have full connectivity, the internet is extremely slow, and I can't seem to maintain a stable connection. I'm using cable internet, I have a router, and I'm running windows vista. I'm pretty sure its not the router because I connected the modem directly to the computer, and it got even worse. I've tried disabling it and restarting my modem and router many times with no luck, and I've tried disabling my firewall. My ISP says my connection is strong, and yet the internet is acting so poorly. This just started happening yesterday morning, and I'm completely stumped. Can anyone lend a hand?

Turn off your cable modem (unplug it), router and PC.

Wait two minutes.

Then, turn on your cable modem, router and PC in that order.

That should do it.

If not, read the Router User Manual and check all router settings. Still stuck? Reconfigure the LAN settings in Windows.

a pair issues i might want to do is sparkling your pc out: disc cleanup, disk defragmenter, perchance a registry cleanser. Afterwards, reset your community. Unplug the router and modem from the wall and leave them unplugged for a lengthy time period. After an hour or so, plug them lower back in, modem first. If this does no longer help, shoot me an digital mail.

Double check/change your cables,....probably not the problem though. I think it's your ISP,.....they can sometimes be less than honest with quick installs/repairs, & not tell you what's really going on in your neighborhood. Lastly, maybe there's an outside chance the modem is going bad?

I;m just stating an obvious one here but...
Bad cable between modem and router?

I'm sure you tried that ..

Also try re-installing the drivers for your network adapter.
