Where my bf lives, there are like 3 different connections from other neighbors but the connection is really low. All 3 connections are locked anyways. I saw on his connections and one of those three when I pressed connect, I noticed there was a password. I pressed connect and it said connected with little or no connectivity. Once it says connected, those that means that is the right password? Can a password appear there by itself? I asked him how he got the password and he said he has no idea and that he doesn't even know about that stuff. He said that that connection used to be opened before but then they changed it to locked. Is there a way that the password can appear there by itself?

But it says little or no connectivity, but it also says connected.

And also, when I tried putting a password in other connections that don't have a password already it doesn't even let me, some sign appears and doesn't even try to connect (when it says aquiring network address). How come the other one (the one with a password) tries to connect at least, it says acquiring network address, then it days connected! but its little or no connectivity. He just says he has no idea, is there a way he can be lying to me?

Once a computer has been connected to a WiFi, it always seems to remeber it, without needing a password, which ur bf computer obviuosly has done. You normally need to have a password before connecting and when it says "little or no connectivity" it normaly means that it can't connect. As far as i no a password can't appear by itself...

I hope that helps!!! : )

Limited or no connectivity means the machine can not get an IP address. This is normally because the encryption key is NOT correct. It can still show connected as it is talking to the wireless side. Also connecting to other people's wireless without authority is illegal. You are lucky the open one was just changed to encrypted without anyone reporting that others had been using it, this could carry fines in the thousands, and up to 5 years in prison.

No there is no way a password can appear by itself. The only way you will gain connectivity is if the connection is open or you have password if there is little or no connectivty is that you are not connected.

You need to know the encryption key/password. If it says little or no connectivity it means you put in the wrong key -- the computer was not assigned an IP address by the DHCP server (this happens if you supply the correct key)

When I am out and about sometimes my wireless tries to connect using the names and settings it already knows, like it says connected to my own base, when I am no where near home. Of course there is no actual internet information obtained, it's like its grasping at straws. This is on my new dell PDA. It's just a bad connection program from Dell, because my old dell pda didn't tell me false "connected"s.
