Currently, DSL is connected to my desktop through the use of an ethernet cable only (no Bell South router) and I purchased a wireless router for connectivity to my laptop. I attempted to install the BellSouth DSL software on my laptop but have discovered that the DSL software does not support Vista (only goes up to XP). Are there any workarounds to get it to work? Need as much detail as possible, I'm a newbie at this. Thanks.

You should be able to connect the router in from of the cable modem or whatever you currently plug your computer into.

The router will pick up an ip address from the cable modem or dsl modem and you will get an ip from the router.

There should be no problems.

They may mean that their software is not Vista ready but you can configure your router the same way your laptop is configured.

Good luck.

Your router should go between your DSL modem and the computer? Or did you get a new modem/router combo?

Does the desktop continue to work through the added router? It should.... Wall to Modem to Router to PC. If that works, your LT should be a breeze and NOT require the Bellsouth DSL software. DO ENABLE WIRELESS SECURITY ON YOUR ROUTER.

The "installer" software that comes from Internet Providers is a bunch of junk -- you don't need it. Just set your network properties to "obtain address automatically" connect to your router and voila!
