I think he'll probably have to use an old win98 computer as the middleman, that is between the modem and his router, but then can his wireless laptop access the internet?

I really hate to say this, but, if he is using dial up he will be much much much better off using a modem on his laptop than trying wireless! There just isn't enough bandwidth to support connecting TWO machines on dial up at the same time. His "intermediate" machine the 98 one will take some bandwidth the router will take some and he will have well, none left!

Just get a modem for dialup.

He would also have to upgrade to Win98 2nd edition to even stand a chance of making this work and even this would not generate decent results.

Sorry wish I could tell you otherwise but I would be telling you a fib.

ahhahaahahhahaha...first of all Tracy L...you crack me up.hahhahahahhaha....

No...you can't. Router don't have the ability to use a phone line and dial up. You need a constant connection like a cable modem.
