Read the previous answer.
If you have U-Verse you have a wireless modem/router! It is a 2wire router and it is wireless it already has it! You can call U-Verse and ask.
Since you are already wired to it you already have ethernet connections to the router. (ethernet is the cables you are using.) You can also connect wirelessly to it, look closely at the front of it you will see a "WIRELESS" light. It will not be ON until there is a wireless connection but the router is set up to connect.

You can run either wired, wireless, or both at the same time! so you don't have to change your current setup at all. If you want to run your laptop wirelessly and it does not have built in wireless then you can add a wireless card to it and run wireless.. (You dont have to but you can.)

Now I am confused I dont even find this that I posted first.

Well, firstly, routers don't install on any computer! You use a computer to install the router and connect it to your broadband connection the computer is just a tool not a critical component, Routers connect to the modem which connects to the Cable/dsl line once configured they are stand alone and not part of the computer that configures them!

What you need to have internet Wireless or Wired on multiple computers is 1.an ISP (internet conncetion) --- 2. a modem -- 3.a router --- and 4. then computers.
(2 and 3 may be the same device just depends on what they do. I prefer two units, modem and router, some prefer one.)

Once you have those then both your HP laptop and IPod can be connected to the internet TROUGH the router! (As well as any other computers you might want to add.)

Yes the router you pointed out, (as well as any other), will connect to any WIFI device. All are supposed to be compatible with each other regardless of manufacturer.

The very first question you need answered is what broadband connection do you have? DSL/CABLE etc. Pick a good router that is compatible with your INTERNET connection!

Hope that helps.
