I have a Acer laptop that connects fine to my MadasaFish broadband internet service via a Belkin wireless router. However it won't connect to any other wireless routers when I am away from home (I have tried four others). Why is this.

As an example I am currently on another Acer laptop at my parents house, connected to their (Orange/Wanadoo) livebox wireless router fine. But when I try to connect with my own laptop it asks for the WEP key, and brings up a window saying:

Please wait while windows connects to the "xxxx" network.
Waiting for the network...

This stays there for a minute or so, and then closes with no error message taking my back to the main "Choose a wireless network" window.

There are no signs of activity on the router when this is happening, and the same thing happens when I put in a deliberately bad WEP key. So this suggests that it cannot see the livebox, rather than that it is rejecting the WEP key.

Any ideas?

Thanks

For her Christmas gift, I promised my daughter I would network our computers so that she can get online when I'm online. Last year I bought her a used laptop with Windows 2000 and a wireless card slot. I went to Radio Shack yesterday and was confused, there are several types of wireless cards to get for her laptop and I left with none. I'm trying not to break the bank with this one and get the most expensive, but she will need a card. The cable company is coming the day after Christmas to hook up their bundle -- phone, cable, and internet service. It will save me alot of money over what I am paying now for phone and internet. They said they would bring a wireless modem for networking up to five computers, and that I should have a wireless card for my daughter's computer, but I don't know what to get. Can you advise me? Thanks in advance.

The signal on my laptop computer (internal wii fi) appears to be excellent, however, I cannot seem to connect to the internet with internet explorer. Any suggestion on what I can do? What could cause this problem?

I am going to buy a wireless USB adapter. I just wanted to make sure that will this actually connect me to the internet via my router?
Also, my parents computer that I'm going to connect to is Windows 2000, but mine is Windows XP. Will I still be able to get internet?

I have connected my two computers via a wired router to the internet. Both can now connect to the internet at the same time, however, I can not seem to get them to interact. I was hoping to share files and printers but they seem oblivious to each other. Number 1 is running Windows XP and the other is running Vista.. Man.. It is tough to get Old!

It is a Pacenet Cat 5 cable connection (i.e. this cable now comes directly to my desktop LAN card). However, I want to share this with my notebook. What is the easiest way to do this? I am not sure if a Hub would work ? Do these connections work only to a particluar LAN card? (i.e. tied to that LAN card)
I am thinking of buying a hub, but need to be sure, before I spend the money.
Please suggest.

I am trying to connect to the internet using a Belkin router and Tesco broadband. When I connect it all up and use the wizard on Belkin site I get to a point where the router is receiving a signal and the computer shows signal being received -(two
computers) showing local area connection. Also Zone Alarm is showing traffic in and out. Router also gives green light for ASDL signal. But am not 'on' the internet -the Belkin site shows 'not connected' as comfirmation. Why is this?
the wizard 'picks up' the required settings apart from my user name and password which I enter. I am using Firefox which is also enabled in ZA for internet access. Any help much appreciated.

My cable internet goes down sporadically. I know it's down when the flashing lights on the cable modem don't connect. I was wondering if theres a way that I can know for certain that I'm not getting the proper internet signal through my cable to my modem so I can keep a log when it goes out.
