We already have Wi-Fi set up to use for our two laptops, and there is an ehternet cable for internet going into the desktop too. how do we set up a network so we can send files to the printer right from a laptop without putting the file on the desktop first? thanks all.

Sounds like all you need is a wireless card for the desktop, either one inside the machine or one of the USB types. If you already have a home wireless network (which is what you have if your laptops are wirelessly connected) then you just need to add the desktop. Just make sure you are using XP or Vista on all machines because they can share NTFS directories (folders) but Win98 cannot. Then you have to share the printer on the laptop by enabling "sharing files and printers".
