In order to use wireless, you have to have a wireless adaptor (card) in the computer. The majority of laptops sold today have one build in. The majority of desktops do not. If you need one, you can purchase one that attaches through a USB port.

If you have a wireless card, there will be an icon in the Control Panel for the Wireless Wizard. Run that and it will walk you through the steps of attaching the computer to a wireless network (assuming there is one in your area.)

There's a switch WIF-I on your PC, if there isn't one, you will have to attach one to your PC yourself called a wireless card. Mine is an Edimax £27. it plugs into the USB port. looks like a TV aerial.
Secondly, check your modem if its got a built in wireless network, if it hasn't you will have to attach a wireless router to the modem yourself, I recommend Linksys £47
