is it the networking icon in control panel?

Start -> right click at the Computer Icon -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device manager -> Expand the '+' sign of network adapter. done.

just to add to billy's answer, if there is a yellow question mark on network adapters, then you need to re-install the river, look at the name of the card (on the network adapter when you click the + sign by the network adapter option in device manager) and search the manufacturer's website or if you PC came with a drivers CD, install from there...

if Network adapter is not listed (which will be weird) then you need to buy an add on card e.g PCI express NIC,or go for a wireless card if you have a wireless router,

if you sent this question from the PC you are talking about, then you have a good network adapter!

To ensure whether you have network adapter installed properly follow simple steps.

From command prompt enter ipcong /all

You will see list of all network address with ip details.

Note - This will also list virtual networks like loop back adapter.

what if it has one but the drivers arnt installed.. it wouldnt show in control panel... i would check device manager to see if one is listed under the hardware.

start run type
devmgmt.msc look for your controller there
