Ok so I had 2 computers connected by wires through a router using a home network. Every thing was fine. Then I said I wanted to move one of the computers so I went wireless. One computer is still hooked up to the back of the new wireless router but the other computer now has a wireless network card and is connecting through wireless to the network. It isn't working. When I click on the icon for the other computer it says a message like "this computer is not accessible." What can i do?

I'm completely ignorant about wireless. If I get a wireless N router to work with my DSL and don't secure the network, can someone access my desktop that is connected by cables, or just my laptop that is connected via the wireless? I don't care so much about the laptop since I don't have anything sensitive on there, but if they can access my desktop that's a big problem.

I'm on a wireless router, and now all of a sudden my internet just randomly dies on me. It says 'connected with limited access' and it's really making me frustrated. Also, when I do get to connect to a network, all the names of the networks now have a little shield with an exclamation mark beside them. What happened?

I was speaking to a friend about increasing the signal on my WRT54GS so I can use it 2 floors up in my house (in a new extension)... Currently I get 0% signal, but after buying a Linksys Range Extender (putting it halfway) I could get about 50%...

But he said to me the best way to increase signal would be to use a hacked firmware such as HyperWRT (I know there are many others but he recommended this to me) which is simple to install, and would allow me to increase the antenna power (increasing the signal).

Apparently EU models are restricted to 28mW, whereas American ones are 50mW, but the full limit is 250mW (which would damage the router)... You can only change the power with the hacked firmware..

I was wondering:
a) does increasing the power leave a health risk?
b) how far could I go up without damaging the router?

Thanks.

I currently have DSL from SBC and the modem they supplied to me is installed in the kitchen where I have my laptop (it's out of the way of any potential spills and stuff). However, my room has a phone jack and I'm wondering, can i put another modem in my room? How many DSL Modems can I have in my home?

I recently switched to cable service provider which gave me a modem as internet package but i wanted wireless service within certain area since i had it before and had grown used to it. I know the wireless works just fine when i am near the router but no sooner i go 10 feet away the network signal bumps down to very Low signal strength. This is annoying cuz i have a hotel and the customers stay atleast 20 feet away from the router. Am i missing out on something or shud i do something to boost the network? cud the router have technical problems? Thank you

I have a DL 524 router, 40 Meter UTP 10/100 lan card and PC running on winxp pro sp2. I have checked the router with another PC and its working. Checked the RJ 45 connector of the 40 Meters UTP with a tester and all 8 small crimped wires are OK. The PC is also working. THE PROBEM IS....the PC cannot connect using the 40 meters UTP cable but can connect with a 10 meter UTP cable. There is also a pulsating icon every second....it pulsates like this. 3/4 seconds a network cable is unplugged then ...1/4 of a second...aquiring IP...does it mean that the signal of the router from the other end of the house is weak....or there maybe just something wrong with the crimping or devices. what are the limits of a wired connection as with its lenght. Hope you can help me. thanks

I'm taking a network and configurations class, and the final project is to build a school in which I design the computer network. I have to show a budget for all materials etc. I just dont know where to start. I'm not sure what I need to build a net work. My planned school will be pretty small, maybe 10-12 classrooms, and of course offices and stuff. We dont have to specify the types of computers, the focus is more on the network setup, wiring, wireless, access points etc. Anybody got a clue where I should start? Maybe a good tutorial site? Thanks!

I have a conference room where I want to setup a wi-fi hotspot so my customers can connect to the internet in that room. How is that possible. I have a computer in the conference room but it is not directly connected to the internet.
