I'm using at&t high speed internet. I left for a weekend and came back and the internet is going very slow. I can't watch videos on youtube and it takes forever to go to each site. There is the little boy who also goes on this computer and uses the internet. Could he have done something to it? Why is it going so slow? Please help

I'm a (mac) design professional looking for a career change and want to go the tech route. I want to do more network work since I figure that will get me out from behind the desk a little more.

What are the major differences? Work environment? Is microsoft more 'desktop' compared to Cisco being more large-scaled? What is the best path in your opinion?

I realize I'm going to get the Comptia network first since many of these tracks seem to have this as a prerequisite..

Me and a friend of mine have tried stuff in Vista in order to connect both of our laptops. The easy part was setting up a network connection for windows XP. When it came to setting up a network connection in Vista, we couldn't think of a way on how to do it. We couldn't find an option wherein you could connect to a home or small office network using a lan cable. Is it possible to connect a laptop with XP and another one with Vista without using a router?

I see a new icon ( right buttom ) that show a new connection has been found but i am supossed to put in a key or code or something before the connection goes through.

Most companies I've worked at have naming conventions for servers. For example, all famous scientists or all famous racecourses. My current company doesn't have this system and as we're getting in a whole bunch of shiny new servers it's time we did. So... how does your company name it's servers?

This one's for all the network and computer gurus.

Nowadays it seems every employer has its employees sign a document acknowledging that NONE of the employee's internet activity and internet communications over the company's network are private. We all know that employers can track which websites are visited by its employees, but I've always wondered...

If an employee goes to hotmail.com or gmail.com and logs into their personal e-mail account, can the employer (through its IT/Network Admin) access/retrieve the following:
(A) the password the employee typed to access their email;
(B) the contents of an email the employee sends from their hotmail or gmail account to another hotmail or gmail user;
(C) the content of an email that is in the employee's hotmail or gmail "inbox," and is opened while on the employer's network;
(D) the content of an email that is in the employee's hotmail or gmail "inbox," but is and was NEVER opened while on the employer's network.

Thanks!

I am unable to connect to the proper network/access point provided by my Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway that is a modem/route/usb/4-port switch provided by Comcast.

The thing is, about 2 days ago, it was fine in connecting to the proper network wirelessly, meaning I could take my new HP laptop with integrated WLAN and HP Wireless Assistant for up to at least 25 yards with a satisfactory signal. The thing is, now I am unable to connect to the proper network I want unless I connect an ethernet cable from the cable gateway.

I do not have more than 5 connections, my ps3 cannot connect to said network as well which it used to on a daily basis, I had already setup the network with proper WEP encryption. Also, I have placed my laptop literally adjacent to my cable gateway so there shouldn't be any signal problems.

I have noticed is that the strongest signal to the list of connect to networks is named "Customer ID" which is not the network I want to connect to. Any suggestions?
