okay so rite now i have a laptop w/ dsl internet access through a router. if my library offers free wifi, will i be able to access the web from there, even if i'm not near my router?
if so, can someone tell me how this works exactly, and if my computer will be able to pick up on the signal from there?

and does it help that my computer has bluetooth?

You can connect to any "OPEN" public network which most librarys supply. You just have to click the wifi adapter (icon in the lower right hand corner of your computer or the wireless network adapter under "Network Connections". Then view available wireless networks.. click the one you wish to connect into and it will connect. Wifi only works for home routers within a range of 100-200 feet normally. But there are lots of Public Access Points like McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.

If your library has "secure" wireless you will need to get the passcode from them to connect.

Bluetooth is a different type connection entirely. It is usually used for printers and other type accessories not normally for internet access -- at least not anything like WiFi! It is very short ranged 10 - 20 feet normally.

first of all let me tell that blue tooth and wireless(wifi) internet are different technologies. so that wont help in this case. u can connect to the awailable networks that u can see on ur laptops. when u are at home u r connecting to the wireless network provided from ur router. when u reach ur library they also having a wireless router and u can view the network and u can connect. and ur computer will be able to pick up all wireless signals.
