House 1 (H1) has ADSL. Would like to broadcast a wireless signal over about 500-800 feet to reach another house (H2). Do I need one wireless router at H1 with a range extender antenna, and a repeater (router setup as repeater)in H2 with another range extender antenna? There are no obstacles between both houses, flat land. Would this setup work?

We have a poweredge 1950 with Win2k3 Enterprise, and it has active directory configured on it. DHCP, however, doesn't work. Right now the router is acting as DHCP server (always has), but once I disable it's DHCP server and enable the Win2k3 server, the network falls apart. I ran a protocol analyzer on the connection and it does see the DISCOVER packets - but gives no response.

I have tried reinstalling the NIC drivers, the TCP stack, DHCP server (fresh config), and DHCP service (remove & add program). Nothing seems to work.

We have a Win2k server that can run DHCP just fine (which I configured, without this problem).

Any ideas?

I'm interested in corresponding with people in other countries via email. Do you know of a service that matches people up for free? I'm just interested in writing and learning, not finding romance via the Web.

Basically, there wont be any LAN networks where I am traveling/staying, so I'm trying to figure out how to get access to a satellite coverage network or some such, but I'm clueless on the matter. I have a PC Card slot but that's pretty much all I have to work with. Any help would be appreciated here.

I need to forward a port. I can connect to the router and surf the net, but I do not have the administrator password to change the settings by typing 192.168.1.1 in the browser. This is my brothers' router. I am watching his place until he comes back. I just need it for gaming and using other software that require port forwarding.

Here's my proposed setup:

The cable will go from the wall to 2-way splitter A.
From that 2-way splitter A, one output will go to the TV for my cable TV.

The other output from 2-way splitter A, will go to 2-way splitter B. 2-way splitter B will have an out put going to my Cable modem and a second output running to my PC TV Tuner Coax imput.

Will this setup work and will I lose any bandwidth?

I want to do this because I don't have enough cable to run a 4-way splitter in place of splitter A

I have a desktop connected to a cable modem, and I use a router to connect it to my laptop. However, since last night, the internet connection on my laptop has been lost. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the modem and the router, and restarting the laptop, but nothing has worked so far. If I go into "Network Connections" and try to "Repair" the connection, it comes up with an error saying that it can't connect.

I share certain folders from certain PCs on my home network. When I try to access them on some PCs, it will ask me for a username and password for an account on the other PC, which is fine.

On some PCs trying to access the same file sharing PC, it will not ask for a username and password, so I cannot gain access to the files on the other PCs. Is there any way to tell these PCs to ask me for a username and password when accessing computers elsewhere on the LAN?
