If the speed is shown as 2Mbps, it means the speed of the network is 2 mega bits per second NOT 2 mega bytes per second.It represents the speed at which data can be sent to any other computer under this network.

It's 2 mega BYTES per second and not bits, i.e. a high speed broadband connection. If it were say, 128 or 256 or 512 mbps (here b stands for bits) would be a high speed internet connection.

It's 2 mega BITS per second. Two million bits per second. Network port speeds are always specified in bits per second, NEVER in bytes per second. The posters who said "bytes" don't know their bits from their bytes.
