The other day I was looking at some wireless routers when I saw some that said they came with a speed booster that will increase speed by up to 35%. Is that really true?

Yes and no. Most of them are proprietary. Every wireless NIC has to be a compatible NIC from the same manufacturer. It does speed up the LAN side of the connection but won't do anything for the WAN (Internet) side.

Low signal has to do with alignment of antennas with each other and blockage of signal by items in the environment, such as mirrors, pipes, appliances. Try putting the USB on the wire and stand and moving it around for a stronger signal. Speed Boost is for a large office environment where multisystems are connected. The speed of the supplier link will also have effect on speed of service. If you only have 1M of incoming, that is the limit. Another thing to do is get the latest firmware for the router from Linksys.

Yes, but will you be able to notice ... it depends what you are doing. Remember the "user experience" is constrained by the slowest link. You may get 108 mbps from the computer to the the wireless access point but the DSL might download at only 3 mbps ... so you will only see 3mbps.

Currently only if you have the same manufacturers card with the same boodter. The standards are so disparate that the chances of getting another maker's card to work with boost are pretty poor.
