I would assume you are talking about a distributed Denial of Service attack, where a bunch of compromised systems attack a single computer to flood it where it floods it's systems or bandwidth.

DDOS = Distributed denial of service

Attack on a target Server or machine is launched from various different locations and machines so that the attcked server gets busy serving these fake connections and a service is denied to all others who are the genuine service users from the server.
Like u hav a mail account on hotmail and hotmail is under DDOS attack so the attckers hav used all the available resources and u now cannot access ya mails...so service is DENIED to u......
