I just bought a lap top and want to get the internet on it. But I want the internet where I can go anywhere and hook up. Is that like satilite service, or what? And what does that cost? And who do I go through?

The type of plans these folks are discussing are very expensive! If you really wish to access the internet from anywhere, rather than use a Wireless Adapter and locate Hotspots to hook up to for either free or a small fee, then go with what they are saying.
If "anywhere internet" is really what you are seaking, go and visit several internet providers such as AT&T, Verizon, etc, and have them hook you up.
If you wish something a bit less expensive, but a bit more difficult, (not much) then use a Wireless Adapter and Hotspots. A Wireless Adapter may already be installed in your laptop computer. Check your paperwork for specifics and see if this is the case. If so, all you need do is locate a Hotspot and pay a small fee to hookup. Some places allow free service, such as librarys, some coffee shops, bookstores, etc. Airports and other places will charge a small fee for hookup. For example: If you know you will be at the airport for several hours, pay the $7.95 for Internet service and then use your Adapter to hook into the Wireless Access Point. The airport personal who you purchase from will show you how to do this.
If you are traveling a lot then the full service may be what you need. However, if you are not traveling a lot, or out in the community a lot, then it is much less expensive to just use your current Adapter and locate Hotspots. Often you can get maps which will show where major Hotspots are in a city. Google, Yahoo! and MSN or Live Maps all have this ability.

I got a lap top for chistmas. You have to go to a store like Best Buy and buy it. If you ask the guy there he will tell you what kind you should get. Mine cost about $300, but I had to hook it up to my computer, so I cant go outside with it. If you want internet that you can get service anywhere that's at least $500.

What your looking for is an air card-
You insert it into your laptops PCMIA slot and surf. All providers have air cards and plans now.
Personally I would look into Verizons air card plan, cheapest at the moment and most reliable.
