I think you do not know what you are talking about. There is no way 1.5 Mbps is dial up.

DSL speeds are governed by the DSLAM speed and the wire distance from your location and the DSLAM.

I have several customers on ATT DSLgetting 6 Mbps for $30 / mo and the local CATV provides 4 - 6 Mpbs for $75 / month.

I also have several customers on Verizon DSL getting 3 Mbps for $20 / mo wiht CATV at 4 - 6 Mbps for $75 / mo.

Having said the above, I believe that you need to check your results more carefully.

CATV rates vary throughout the day - and they slow down as the number of users goes up. DSL is pretty constant throughtout the day.

Each has its place. However claiming 1.5 Mbps which is also 1500 Kbps is the same as dial up which is never over 52 kbps is just flatly incorrect.

The fine print is that 6 Mb/s is the highest they offer but they cannot guarantee that speed, especially in suburbs or neighborhoods outside the urban core. It depends on how far away you are from the nearest phone company switch building and how good the wires are between you and there. The max distance is somewhere around 15000 feet.

My apartment is somewhere around the 14000+ foot mark and we get degraded service, about 1Mb/s compared to the max of 1.5/Mb/s.
