Do you have WPA encryption enabled in your router, To check, access the settings of your wireless router by opening your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and typing in the right IP address, for example:

Linksys, Trendnet IP is http://192.168.1.1
Netgear, D-Link IP is http://192.168.0.1
Belkin, USRobotics IP is http://192.168.2.1

Enter the default or your unique username and password. Then, look for the security settings for your wireless connection and set it to “WPA” or “WPA-PSK, TKIP” and make your own passphrase. Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the now "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.

TIP: WEP isn't secure, but it is better than nothing.

Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection, and only then, call the router manufacturer.

I assume you mean Wireless security. Point your browser to the belkin router. (It is usually the default gateway.) You can find the address of the default gateway by going to the Start menu, the Run command and type "command" (no quotes) in the box and hith the Enter key. This will bring up a Command prompt box. Type "ipconfig" (no quotes) and hit Enter. This will show the address of the default router.

Now open your browser (eg. Internet Explorer) and put the gateway address in the address bar. (It will be something like 192.168.1.1) The left side of the screen will have something that says Security. Select it. It will prompt you for a password. The default is no password.

Now select the kind of security you want. 64bit and 128 bit WEP is easy to hack for a professional, but most people wouldn't bother to try. WPA is almost impossible to hack. (It must be guessed) Select the protocol you want, enter an Encryption key in the appropriate box, then enter the same key on the computers you want to use.

Hello,

(ANS) First of all you need to connect to the Belkin router, via the web browser interface and IP address or the special software that came with the router.

Next, goto the Administrators page, or set-up or configuration page (may need to login with username & password to change settings?)

Next, on the configuration pages, look for security or encryption (how to encrypt your connection).

Look for WEP, IPSEC or WAP

**Use WAP ( as its more secure than WEP)**

**To set up the encryption on your connection you will be asked (required) to create a unique string of characters ( which is usually a long combination of numbers & letters, alpha-numeric's, this is just like a bank account PIN number) but make sure you keep a copy or write it down and keep it secure some where else. In case you ever need to know it again in future!.

Next save the settings and reboot the router, now the connection between your computer (PC,Laptop, etc) and the router, and the internet should be secured. Also get someone else to have a look at your connection externally to make sure it is secured/encrypted (especially important for wireless connections). The connection should be secured from other external users attempting to connect to the internet from your router. **If you have encrypted the connection correctly it wont be hackable from an external source. i.e. your connection won't be HiJack-able.

Hope that helps?

Kind Regards Ivan

The Belkin Wireless G Router lets users share files and a broadband Internet connection among their computers-without using networking cables. It features 802.11g technology that makes accessing files and networked peripherals-such as hard drives, printers, CD-ROMs, and DVDs-easier than ever. 802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. An integrated, 4-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch also allows you to connect wired computers to the network. 802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Router uses the wireless 802.11g 2.4GHz standard to offer you 400 feet of wireless coverage. 802.11g technology is backward compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi networking standard, so it allows you to implement faster wireless technologies in combination with existing 802.11b Wi-Fi networks.

Advantages
