I'm actually having similar problems and I havn't figured it out yet :) Try setting the wireless router to shared, and have it generate 5 codes from a base code. Then try all of them till 1 eventually works. Thats my temporary solution until I figure it out.

Do you have WEP encryption enabled in your router?
To check, access the settings of your wireless router by opening your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and typing in the right IP address, for example:
Linksys, Trendnet IP is http://192.168.1.1
Netgear, D-Link IP is http://192.168.0.1
Belkin, USRobotics IP is http://192.168.2.1
TIP: WEP isn't secure, but is better than nothing, WPA is WAY better. Use it if available.
On the main screen, enter the default (or your unique) username and password. Then, look for the security settings for your wireless connection and set it to “WPA” or “WPA-PSK, TKIP” and make your own passphrase. Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the NOW "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.
Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection, and only then, call the router manufacturer.

that's bad for you but i hacv a sollution.windows vista is new so it does'not support some importantsoftwares such as wi-fi,
bluetooth etc.
in this case you get ur laptop formatted to xp (if u want to)
then ur wi-fi will work
or
u can take it to a software enginer and get ur wi-fi system updated(this will be very affective but will cost u about 100 $)
