Computer Networking - March 2007

[Selected]: All categories Computers & Internet Computer Networking

The problem appears to be with, 'Local Network Configuration Settings. This is causing problems between two separate computers. connected via Home Hub, by two ethernet cables.
I was told I was correct in the fact that, this should not happen when are both just typing.
This will be only, when downloading on one computer, will effect the other computers speed.

What happens is, both our computers makes the other computer, work slower. (In other words) Both people cannot work efficiently at the same time.

Has anyone got a solution into how I can reconfig settings, without damaging the Network totally. To enable us both to be able to work at home.

Please only advise if you know a great deal about computers.

I have two laptops at home, different model. They both connect to the same router (linksys) and they both detect the signal and the status is connected. My problem is that one of the laptops that says connected, does not really connect. It gives me page cannot be displayed. I have the settings in automatically connect to the signal in range and it detects IP and DNS automatically. This laptop was working fine and I used my recovery CD to make sure the harware was properly installed. The problem persists. My other laptop is working just fine, with the same settings in place. Please help me figure it out.

Could I hook it up to my TV? Could I start my coffee pot from my bed? If you have suggestions like that, could you please input, Thank You

at my old job, we used to be able to send messages to other people on the network using the "run" command.... i cant remember exactly how to do it, but i think you had to know the name of each computer that you wanted to "chat" with.

Ok guys, here's the deal. I live and study in Germany, in a students' house and we are using a shared connection. There are 3 floors each with 12 rooms in the building. I noticed, that my Internet connection is quite slow at moments. I use regularly the website www.speedtest.net to check my internet speed. My average score is 450 kb/s . Sometimes it's ~ 200kb/s , sometimes it's 600kb/s and s.o. I went to my neighbour's room to check his speed on the same site, using the same server at the same time. We ran 3 tests in a row. The results were stunning for me : he got ~ 1.8mb/s and mine best was ~700kb/s. I decided it could be the LAN-cable. I changed it with his and the results were the same. Then I took my laptop to his room and used his telephone bush . The results were the same. So where could be the problem ? I doubt it it is a hardware problem . Maybe software ? I don't have additional firewalls installed, I'm using the one provided in Windows. I haven't changed any properties. So ?
