I am moving into a new apartment and it only has one phone jack but it is located in the kitchen and I wanted to run my dsl off of it. I called my telephone company (SBC) and they said it would cost $120 to install another jack but then the rep. told me that I could use a wireless jack instead where I would just plug it into any wall outlet and run it that way. If I do run the wireless phone jack system then would that slow my internet connection down or would it just run fine? Another tech where I work (DSL call center) told me it wouldn't be filtered and that it would cause me problems. Who should I believe and what do you think would happen?

Our house is decently sized, so it seems the wireless signal is dying and is not strong enough. I've lived in a bigger house and had a LinkSys work pefectly from all around the house. We moved and I signed up for AT&T DSL. They send a 2Wire brand wireless router to install. How do I boost the signal so my roommates can get a signal from their rooms? They're using MacBook Pros...

I have one PC at home, I'm connected to a DSL Modem for my Internet connectivity. Does having only 1 PC warrant buying a router for it? I already run Zone Alarm and an AV program to protect against viruses, should I also include a Router?

I have a Linksys wireless router that I use to connect all my computers to the internet. I have 2 PC's and 2 laptops. The PC’s are wired and the laptops are wireless. Up until I connected the laptops to the wireless router, they both worked fine both wired and at various places using wireless internet. Now one of the laptops will not connect to the internet. It says it is connected and shows it has signal but the only thing that works is Mozilla. IE, ITunes and Yahoo IM will not connect. When I try to use these programs, it gives me the error message that I am not connected to the internet. I spoke with a Linksys rep who took me through my settings for both my laptop and my router. They eventually told me that even though the problem started when I hooked up their router the problem is not with them. I tried reinstalling IE and that did not work. There are certain programs I need to access through the internet that only work with IE so only having Mozilla is not an option for me. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?
