I am moving into a new apartment and it only has one phone jack but it is located in the kitchen and I wanted to run my dsl off of it. I called my telephone company (SBC) and they said it would cost $120 to install another jack but then the rep. told me that I could use a wireless jack instead where I would just plug it into any wall outlet and run it that way. If I do run the wireless phone jack system then would that slow my internet connection down or would it just run fine? Another tech where I work (DSL call center) told me it wouldn't be filtered and that it would cause me problems. Who should I believe and what do you think would happen?

Well unless I am badly mistaken, your dsl instal kit will come with a little filter, that filter "splits" the dsl on one side and has a plug for your phone on the other so you really dont need another jack the one you have is just fine.

Now if you want phones that cover your apartment, put a two unit wireless phone into the "new filter" phone plug and use the other handset wherever you want. It wont slow your internet.

If you want wireless internet get a wireless router so you can have wifi anywhere in your apartment. - You still only need one phone jack.

If you are talking about a wireless network thru the electrical receptacles, they have them but they are no where near as fast. Just plug a splitter into the existing phone jack and run a phone line.
