When I've finished being on line, my computer won't cut the telephone connection. I have to turn it off completely to get it to do so. How can I rectify this problem?

1 Do this, Control panel/internet and network connections/internet options/connections/double click your connection then click advanced and finally tick Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed.
OR 2 You should have 2 small monitors in your system tray (Bottom right corner of screen) double click those to get the connection disconnect button.

Are you using DUN (dialup networking) in XP or do you have a dialer program from the ISP. Most dialer programs have a "hangup" or "bye" selection to simulate ending the call.

Is there an icon in the system tray for the dial connection when you are connected? If so, right click on it and select disconnect or hangup options.
