While a MAC address is used to uniquely identify a network card, the ip address is used to identify a computer on a network so that it can actually be found.
We need to be able to control the value of ip addresses so that internet traffic can be routed properly. Similar to an area code in a phone number an ip address gives some information about where it is located.

MAC address is for the local and LAN envronment but IP address used for the international.
You can better understand about that. Every body knows you in local area with only your name or parents name. But what will you do for International.
Of course you will need a well formed Address of your home such as Your Name, Your C/O, Street,City,State,Country. It is unque address for you only and can easily Identify anybody to you by this address.
IP works on the same logic. It is used for the International Address of website which can be Identified by outside the network area. An IP address aso gives information about the country,City and Owner of ID address so it is used.
Hope that u understood
thanks

An IP address and a MAC address works on different layers of the network system.
The MAC address is the physical layer and it is at that level when matching network card to IP.
The IP address is on the software layer and it is needed for routing to happen. At this layer, the IP address tells the router which interface with the MAC is the IP used at the moment.

cuz mac addresses uniquely identifies the hardware. IP addresses are for internet connection purposes. Furthermore IP address cannot be fixed, meaning the same IP address cannot be assigned to the same user cuz for instance, a broadband company had to spend money to get IP address. lets say 3 million. but they have 5 million users. but since not all 5 million are online at the same time, to it is assigned on first come first served basis. Theres actually more to the actual IP addressing to what ive jusy mentioned. But i hope u get the idea.

Because IPs are organized by segments around the world, and now, IPv6 offers a lot of advantages and security measures that you couldn't apply by just using a MAC.
Plus the MAC is the easiest thing to spoof, just change the numbers and you become the new owner of the Bill Gates computer.
