Wi-fi is basically just a wireless network for computers. You know how you plug your computer into the internet? With a Wi-fi connection, you wouldn't need to do that. The signal is wireless.

You'd need special equipment: A router to send out the Wi-fi signal and each piece of hardware that needs to read the signal would need a wi-fi adapter, though newer devices come with it already built in.

It's not difficult to do.

Wi-Fi is a brand originally licensed by the Wi-Fi Alliance to describe the underlying technology of wireless local area networks (WLAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. It was developed to be used for mobile computing devices, such as laptops, in LANs, but is now increasingly used for more services, including Internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and basic connectivity of consumer electronics such as televisions and DVD players, or digital cameras

WIFI means WIreless FIdelity. you just need a wireless adapter, about $50 more or less. And a wireless router (to build a wireless network), about $50 also. The good thing is, if your lucky, you can get network signals from your neighbors and get free internet. you need to connect the router to an internet connection(you can't use dial-up)
