I have a desktop that is running Ubuntu. I love it but it does not have an internet connection. How do I download programs for it on my windows laptop that has the internet connection and install them on the Ubuntu system. My 4gb USB drive supports Ubuntu so putting the programs on there is no problem it is just finding them and installing them. particularly an mp3 player. I only have a wireless connection for the internet and the desktop does not have a wireless card, so there is no way that it can connect to the internet unless somebody could help me by telling me how to connect to the internet on the desktop through the laptop.
Thanks

i have at home an ADSL line and of course a server provider.

in how many forms and places the data are stored along the network? does the service provider store my internet data activity or just provide the service with temporary data storage, i really don't understand this process.

the network is 2 PC at home with ADSL line sharing the same modem and router.

When I go to run/cmd/ipconfig it shows one ip address, but websites show another. I suspect ip address found by websites is that of my school's firewall, but I want to change the ip address seen by websites. Is it possible to change the firewall's ip address, or to somehow get around this problem?

I was only getting a 32K connection on my dial up, so I wanted to see if I could improve the speed by taking the modem off my computer and uninstalling the driver, and installing it again. Now it won't connect more than 28.8K! Ugh!

(I can't use cable or dsl as it is not available where I live.)

I think it may be because my norton anti-virus may be preventing Limewire from connecting to my network. Is this possible? Or is it something else? My internet and everything else is fine it's just Limewire that's not connecting.

In the setup there is a stage called "Detect". Even though
the access point's wireless LED flashs, and the base unit
is set "Allow wireless", the access point Detects nothing.
So, I can't go wireless,
If you own a USR 5451 you might have the answer.
