detectives went to my fathers house and took laptop, computer desktop, digital camera, wireless broadband card, printer and aunts computer that he lives with. He says its because of a site call snarf-it were its illegal to download movies and music but i do not think it is that. why could 10 detectives go to my fathers house to do this? he has to go to court also. any opinions

They are obviously looking for something that isnt free or legal. And they have probable cause to do so (they have to show cause to a magistrate to get the search warrant that allowed them to enter and sieze the personal effects). He needs a good Lawyer at this point, and alot of family support, the justice system works backwards alot of the time. ( as in assuming guilt until proven innocent).

I'm sure you already know that the detectives believe the computers and camera may hold data evidence of a crime. They would also collect non-storage hardware believed to be used in the criminal acts under investigation (printers, broadband connectivity devices, etc). Seizing the camera and printer points to image evidence, so illegal porn may be involved - but this is just speculation.

Sounds like he did something very illegal. Illegally downloading movies usually doesn't warrant that. If he is being charged with something then the police would have given him in writing what he is being charged with. If they haven't, then either his attorney needs to contact the police, or your father is being totally upfront with you.

He must have done something drastically illegal. Viewing porn is an example. Let him go to court, he needs to learn a lesson.

your father was probably stealing videos or music but that is a litlle drastic he might have porn that he was downloading too or forcing women and or men to get naked to film them
