Hi -
There are a few possible causes.
1. Firewall. Have you recently installed a firewall, or used a new one or something? Open your firewall up, (try opening up windows firewall, too) and go to the section where it lists the programs that have access to both in/out for the internet. If limewire is either not listed, or is listed, but denyed access, you will need to find the "add" button, and add limewire to the list. If you have a seperate firewall then windows firewall, disable windows firewall completely.
2. In your connection settings in limewire, you could be trying to connect to a certain port that doesn't have a good connection. There should be something like "choose random port". Also, if you are not using a port (not talking about proxy server), then it could slow down your connection.
If you are still having trouble, I recommend re-installing limewire. Also, delete it from your firewall list of approved programs, and re-add it, too.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

I not use Limewire, but, being the great man I am, I can never deny answering a pretty woman's question.
I really not know, as I not use this stuff. THINK, what settings you may have changed, Firewall, Virus Software, etc. Also Windows/Microsoft can and will block some things, (Auto Updates, scratch my back stuff). But, I will say a setting may have changed, if, you did not change anything, an update did.
I just buy my CDs and DVDs less problems.
But, for information purposes, I believe Limewire is legal "IF" you already own the CD/DVD, if it were not I assume the FBI stop it.

It could be that your Norton Anti-Virus automatically raised your firewall alert. Check it out, you might have to turn it off while on limewire, although, limewire itself has a lot of little bugs that will slow down your computer for a while, so it's not recommended.

Likely a firewall issue. You will have to configure firewall settings to allow Limewire as a trusted site. You may find help on Norton's FAQ page at www.symantec.com
Best to use Shareaza, no spyware or malware or adware like on Limeware and similar P2Ps.

YOU MAY NEED TO UN-INSTALL LIMEWIRE, THEN RE-INSTALL IT. If it's the free version you're talking about, you can go to download.com and get the free version there. Once it comes up, it will ask you to upgrade. There's 3 choices they give you, just click on the "later" one and you'll go directly to the search part.

Use Ares. It is a free P2P/Torrent client that I have found to be extremely user friendly with little to no worms/trojans.
This can be downloaded at:
