Hi all

I have just bought a laptop with built in wireless card and am trying to connect it to my Netgear wireless router. Previously i had used the router with the usb dongle on my old laptop which worked fine. The laptop picks up the wirless network but when trying to connect it cannot acquire a network address. i have checked and double checked the WEP encrytion and its exactly the same on both PC's

Help!!

When I remotely access my desktop from my laptop on the same network, it takes about 30 seconds to open a folder. Is this normal? I use XP, a D-Link Router, and only the laptop and pc are on the network.

I have a Verizon wireless network card, which I pay for on a monthly basis. My girlfriend has a USB generic-type of wireless network card and thinks she can "piggyback" off me and my pc laptop. Is this possible? She thinks having an AOL account is sufficient to do this.

I have a wireless router and I think other people might also be using it. Is it possible for that to be stopped somehow?

I was wondering what the best deal would be for wireless broadband service? I see that Verizon wireless offers a broadband anywhere type package for 60 bucks a month for unlimited bandwidth. Is there a way you can use this type of service to facilitate all of your home internet needs? I have an Xbox 360 that I would like to hook it up to, and also my other home computer. Can you do these types of things, or is it just for a laptop? Also, does anyone know the best service for the best price? Any input would be helpful Thanks!

Hi, My name is Jessica. I am 15 years of age, And I have been interested in getting my CCNA for the past two in a half years now. I have searched online, and purchased the Cisco book recommended for studying my CCNA , But I am having difficulty in understanding some of the training & concepts in the book. I am trying to find an online program or an online training course to help me better comprehend the networking field. I'm mainly having trouble in the Virtual LANs ( VLANS ) area. If anyone has any words of wisdom, Or any suggestions at all.... I would personally love to read them & would greatly appreciate them!!!!!!!!!

I would like to set up a way for a friend to access my win 2000 pro comp. from a remote point via the internet.

My friend often uses the computers at the local librbary to check his email and such. I believe these computers are running win 98 (although they may have upgraded to XP, or be in the process of doing so). I'm running Windows 2000 professional SP4. I set up a user account in my friend's name on my machine. I'd like him to be able to access this account from the machines in the library. I'd also love it if it did not require any extra software, at least on the client side as he probably can't go installing tunneling software on the library computers.

So, how can we set this up? could he simply type in my IP and win2k then ask for his user name and password? Or is telnet the only answer that doesn't require more software?

Please, if answering, be detailed, and don't assume I know things I might not know. If your answer is very long, email it to fraterchaos@yahoo.com

Here is my situation: I have a slim PS2 in one room and two computersin another room. The old computer is hooked up to a sbcyahoo dsl 2wire modem via USB and the newer computer via ethernet. I have one 100 ft. cable going from the modem to the PS2 and the other to connect the newer computer. I bought this other one because another user of the computers wanted to protect the older ethernet cable from becoming unstable and worn due to reconnecting and disconnecting. My question is, How can I connect all 3 at the same time with convenience and not ruin and wear out the ethernet cable connections? Maybe an ethernet switch or hub? Please give me any other methods and opinions you have. Thank you. -gamertag = BURNINATORO Zach

A guest is staying with me for the next three days. He brought his computer, but it does not have a wireless card. We (apt complex) have a wireless network. Is it possible to get him to connect to the net through one of our wireless-endowed laptops?

As this is apartment-complex-wide wireless, I don't have access to a router to just plug him in that way. Sadly.

My desktop is running XP. My laptop is running XP pro. I have residential DSL, and a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router. The configuration is the DSL feed comes from the wall to the DSL modem, then to the router. The router is hard-cabled to the desktop and wirelessly linked to the laptop. I am able to access the DSL internet connection on my laptop successfully. In addition, I am able to access corporate resources through the wireless network and my VPN client on the laptop. I am wondering if the problem has to do with one or more of the following: router settings, advanced network settings on one or both computers, method of setting up the "home network" (such as the initial choice of configuration on the network setup wizard)...or, even if I actually have a home network set-up, workgroup configuration/naming. Please advise. Thanks.
