Ok, so i have my Internet and phone through the same Cable company, (Millennium Digital Media) so i have a Cable Modem, and a white "MTA" box(which is for the phone), i wanted to buy a router to connect My Xbox live, and my computers internet so i can be on both at the same time, so, an ethernet cable comes from my modem to the MTA box, then another cord from my MTA box to the Computer, so whenever i want to play xbox live, i have to unplug the cord that goes to the computer, and plug in the cable that connects my to my xbox. so if i buy a Regular router (NOT wireless) and i plug the router into the port where i plug my Xbox, and my Computer into, and i plug the cable that comes from the computer into the router, and my xbox into the router, will both them work? Do i have this right? it may sound confusin but im sure someone can answer this.

This is the modem i want:

Okay I'm going to try explain this best I can. My parents have ADSL internet on their computer with a DSL modem. I have a laptop with an Agere Systems AC'97 Modem. I've plugged the internet cord into my laptop and set up the connection etc, but it won't connect. Is it because my modem is (possibly, I'm not sure) not a DSL one? And is it at all possible to connect to the internet on my laptop this way? Already tried wireless but we'd need to buy a new modem for my parents computer, so seeing if this will work. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 3004LMI and my parents computer a Parkard Bell if that helps at all. Thanks heaps!

One of the networks shows up on my laptop as CSBWAP and it has wep protection on it. I never thought anything of it until i changed my wireless channel to 1 today and when i went to search networks it changed to 1 with me. I looked it up and CSB WAP on yahoo and it is supposedly a mac airport or some kind of public acces point or something. What is it? Why did it change with me?
Its wireless G and its MAC ADR. is 00:16:B6:D1:48:18
i am detecting it now in my home and there is no buildings besides houses within at least half a mile.

the performance degrades, then stops totally. Then, I start getting "the page cannot be displayed" errors. The modem-activity icon slows down, then stops altogether. I have to reboot to get it to work again, every 15-30 minutes. I thought of reformatting but not sure that's any help... modem diagnostics say it's working ok. any ideas?

Hi, I currently have a Wireless-G Router (Model CWR-854). In addition, I have the Free ZoneAlarm firewall.

Here are my problems:

It won't allow access to internet banking sites completely. Accesses main pages, but times out when trying to log in.

BitTorrent won't work properly. “Checking for firewall...” just keeps going

Google Videos and YouTube slower.

General downloads slower. (Direct connect = fast!)

Further info:
The ZoneAlarm firewall works fine and everything worked perfect until I put the router between. It works, but there are a few problems. I do not use it as a wireless router - just ethernet cables. First thing I did was change pwd, enable the firewall on the router, set it as a gateway, disable wireless. Then everything works fine except for these problems.

I've read something about having the most restrictive rules first - is this something I need to worry about?

I'm just uncertain what to do with this - it's getting annoying :(

I have not been able to connect to the internet for many hours now. It was working last night. My computer says that there is no network adapter on it. All of my cables are connected properly, I am using a Windows XP computer with no wireless just a cable modem. I tried having the computer search for hardware but it says there is nothing new. I went to the device manager but there is no network adapter. Not sure what is going on

Hi, I just bought a router and have set up a network.
Everything worked fine until I tried to secure the network. I'm really new at this and have been following the instructions but it wasn't really helpful. I have the D-Link 524

-Security is under WEP
-I would like to undo all the security but I can't connect to http://192.168.0.1/ to change anything back to normal. The network is there but I cannot connect to it and the password is correct.
What should I do?
Any help would be greatly apreciated! THANKS!! :)have a good day

I can get ADSL2+ broadband speed up to 24000kbps. I want a router that can handle that but it says speeds up to 300 mbps. I know megabytes are bigger than kilobytes but what is the difference in bytes?

My Mum wants her two laptops to work wirelessly with a BT Voyager 2110 Wireless Router. I always thought that you needed a main PC connected to the router via a network cable (RJ45) and then the other PC's could go wireless.

I wired the router to one of the laptops and secured the wireless connection with WPA. Changed the SSID and password and rebooted the router. After removing the RJ45 I set one of the laptops up to run wireless and it worked for a couple of hours. Then the connection was lost.

I switched off the router and laptop for a few minutes, then turned the router back on and waited about 5 minutes until the necessary lights on the router were lit and then turned the laptop back on. It worked again but who knows for how long.

Should I be able to have 2 laptops working wireless without the router wired to another PC?

Any help is much appreciated

Hi, My name is Jessica.
Though I'm only 15 years of age,

I have been interested ( And have been prusuing ) in getting my Certs ( CCNA ) for over 2 in half years now.
Networking seems to be the profession I would like to be in,
Or at least some Graphic Designing.

I have indeed purchased the Cisco books recomended....

But in a sense I'm not so sure if networking is the absolute route I should take. That's why I'm looking for personal opinions from others with experience in the networking area.

I would like some personal suggestions in presuing
my education and what might be the best route to all of this.

Is becoming a network engineer truley a good job with lots of oppertunities... Or should I be looking into something else.?.

Thanks for reading, And your suggestions are greatly apperciated.

I woke up this morning and my internet would not work. looked in the internet connections and there is nothing inside, it is completely blank. I only have a cable modem plugged in to my computer, and all coords & lights are working. I did an "ipconfig" in the command screen and it comes up with no data whatsoever. I have a Win XP computer. Internet is working elsewhere in the area, it is a problem inside my computer. I did many restarts, resetting the modem, etc. I called Cox but they said it is not their area. I appreciate any help.

I have all the shared boxes ticked reinstalled the installation disc which came with the printer but still no luck. When I come to print from the computer that it's connected to it works fine.
