Hi, I just bought a router and have set up a network.
Everything worked fine until I tried to secure the network. I'm really new at this and have been following the instructions but it wasn't really helpful. I have the D-Link 524

-Security is under WEP
-I would like to undo all the security but I can't connect to http://192.168.0.1/ to change anything back to normal. The network is there but I cannot connect to it and the password is correct.
What should I do?
Any help would be greatly apreciated! THANKS!! :)have a good day

well when you sign into the router using 192.168.0.1 then you can go to security wep thing. then you have a a box where you can put whatever you want. once you have done this there is 4 boxes line 1 line 2 line 3 line 4. In the first box is the key you need to write down. That is the key that allows you on the network. So go to your other computer and put that key in and try to connect. if it is all messed up you always can reset the router by pushing the little button in the back for 30 seconds while still beeing plugged in. Thus would reset everything to manufacturers default settings.

Try reseting the router. I think the model has a tiny button that you hit with a pin, which resets everything.

If your wireless computer can pick up a wireless connection, connect to it. It won't have any passwords.

Then go into 192.168.0.1 (if that's the route), and go through the setup wizard.

Good luck!

You have two solutions :-

1- When you created a WEP security the router asks you to enter a password and then it gives you 4 different network keys enter anyone of them .... if u already done this and didn't work try the other solution.

2- Open control panel / network connections / right click on wireless network connection choose properties / select wireless networks from above / choose your network and then click configure / on data encryption choose WEP / and on the two fields enter one of the network keys twice / and on data authentication choose open / then click OK /

I hope I helped ...

Try and connect to it with a cable. Plug into it with a network cable and not your wireless connection. If you changed something on the wireless settings you need to make sure your computer is setup to match it. If you are still having trouble there should be some steps in your documentation to reset the router to factory defaults.

In either situation you will need to connect to it with an ethernet cable.

do not use http:// in the address field of your browser. make sure you got the address correct. and there is also a reset button somewhere on the back you can hold down to reset your router.

It's very hard to know what might have gone wrong.

Try contacting the D-Link helpdesk. I have found them to be excellent in helping you get things sorted.
