You should have no trouble with a router if you ensure you buy one that says it is Vista compatible.
I would imagine anything built in the last couple of years would be fine but ask and all your concerns will be settled.

most routers are driverless devices. so you should have no problem. the trouble arrises only when you want to use the software to automaticaly configure your router.
however manual configuration of your router is one of the easiest things you can do.
you just need to know a few little things from your ISP, your username and password. in the case of bt broadband the password is always BT with your username: your.name@btbroadband.com you will also need to know a couple other settings. your ISPs online help page will help you configure your router or be able to suggest one that is preconfigured for use on there network.
however you can not go wrong with a belkin router with modem and wireless internet built in the one unit. you will need a computer with an ethernet port and connect the computer to the router to configure it.
but once properly configured you can then use the computer in wired or wireless mode providing you secure your network properly. however setting up a strong key on the belkin router could take you a while to do (and i'm guessing to that the same would be true for most routers). but once all is set up you do not need drivers for it. although you may need your ISP set up CD to set up your provided modem then simply swap over the old modem for the modem router, or to add the router to your modem. instructions will come with whatever modem/router you buy.
but if you go to the manufacturers websites then you should find ddrivers for vista listed.
but unless you are a business user how can you have a legal copy of vista already? it is not due to be released to the general public untill mid january if memory serves.
so i'm guessing your either an old betas tester and have been offered a legal upgrade, or you foolishly responded to one of the scam emails doing the rounds. which means your copy of vista is both not genuine and is most likely full of spyware and other little nasties. I hope i'm wrong and you are using legal sourced software.
if your hardware is less than 3 years old and or is XP compaitible then there should not be any trouble in sourcing legal and current drivers from the hardware manufacturers website.
such as www.hp.com
www.canon.com
www.epson.com
the list goes on just find your hardwares manufacturer and do a search for there website. do not go to sites other than original manufacturers, because you could get a few little nasties thrown in with your driver such as spyware, a virus amongst other problems. i used a site to get a driver once that was not the OEM and had malware by the bucket load installed with the driver as well as getting my computer turned into a zombie spamming machine. so now myt system is clean I only ever recommend that you get drivers from a reputable source and that is the equipment Makers direct.

Your router should be fine. It doesn't associate the way a printer does. You can get a netgear, dlink, or linksys. I have beta tested Vista and used both Netgear and Linksys with out issues on the router side.
Your printer has issue because it needs a driver that is compatible and it resides on your computer. My work around this was to hook the printer to my router, not directly to my computer.
It allowed me to print, but it didn't allow any printer options such as selecting print quality, special paper, etc. I connected the printer to the USB printer port on my router. (sometimes it works out to pay a little more for your gear)
I hope this helps, good luck

I take it you have the trial version of Vista, so NO it will not work, most of the drivers are missing, to stop piracy!
But still get a router, and wait for Vista service packs 1,2 etc.
AND BE WARNED, Vista is full of security holes, the Microsoft anti hacking flagship has failed!

the easiest way to check is to go to your network connections| properties if there is a tcp/ip protocol, then you should be able to use a router. its usually standard in every computer. good luck.
