I have a new Laptop PC that uses Win XP and would like to use printers that are connected to a desktop PC that uses Win 2000. The desktop can 'see' the laptop but can't access it. The Laptop can't 'see' the desktop. (I am using a Linksys wireless G router for internet access.) So am I attempting the impossible?

I need to do this wirelessly. Win 2000 is on the desktop that is connected directly to the router. and the laptop is connecting wirelessly

You will need network cards on both of them. Then you can use a crossover cable to connect the two. You can enable file and print sharing once they are physically connected.

Did you set up File and Printer Sharing on the desktop?

Try restarting the router and see if both computers can access its setup page. Check if DHCP is showing both machines.

What you are doing should work, but Windows must be tweaked to see it.

Also both computers should have the same protocol running - TCP or NetBios.
