It depends on whether you have dsl or adsl. I have an adsl modem-router. This is the second one I've had and had to pay a network technician to set them up on both occasions - and I'm a trained technician. It isn't easy. Basically you have an IP. That will be in your router/modem. Then you will have private IPs. Mine are 192.168.0.1 for the router. 192,168,0,2 for this laptop. 192.168.0.3 for my desktop. If your laptops have built in wireless you will find it easier. Incidentally, to get in to your router to set it up - run Internet explorer - put in the IP 192.168.0.1 in my case. You will find the IP on the bottom of the router and the user name and password to get in. If it asks for a passphrase - type anything it just generates a encryption key. Write that down. Unless you want to share your network with the entire neighbourhood change the user name and password. I can hack all my neighbours easily - even the ones with encryption. When it's all set up and working you have to get file sharing and printer sharing to work. Do that in My network places in XP. You may like to buy a book on networking. The instructions that come with the router tell you how to plug it in and any problems it says to ask your network administrator! lol You are the network administrator!

This should not be too confusing. you may want to attempt software that takes the time and discomfort out of it like community Magic, yet that is slightly expensive. if you're utilizing equipped-in Microsoft networking and also you've already got the infrastructure in position, then run the community wizard on XP, yet merely be particular you employ WORKGROUP because the workgroup call, as it truly is used by the different 2 by default. do not enable the abode windows 7 gadget set up a homegroup, merely ascertain that document and printer sharing is grew to change into on on all 3 besides as community discovery. you're absolute to run into some unusual issues, yet in case you verify out forums around the internet, you should locate strong thoughts. strong success (you'll need it)

first get a router and an access point. i recomend to get a linksys because they will be the best quality and it sometimes will speed it up to a quicker speed. then put in the cd that comes with it and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.then if you have wireless built in laptops just scan and connect to the network.if not you will need a wireless scaner which will scan and connect to the network.

Hope this helps!!

Get a wireless router, the router will have directions with it, its simple as that. but unlike my friend above said you need the routher, what he is explaining is simply connecting to the internet, not createing a network, trust me here in iraq we wanted to play WarHammer 40k winter assult against eachother and tried to do that, what we ended up haveing to do was buy the router.
