Many ways,
1. set up a home netowrk and share the files.
2. use an instant messaging program like AIM to transfer the files (it should go very fast doing it through a router)
3. external drives or devices (i.e. bounce it off a flash drive, an IPOD (used as a hard drive)
4. Burn it.

You could always share the files on your old computer over your network and then access them on My Network Places on your laptop and copy and paste them from there. I daresay that burning the files to a CD or DVD or saving them to a flash drive and uploading them to your laptop would be much faster, though.

If they are both on Windows XP, you can set up the network, found in my computer, then just drag all the files you want to move into the shared folder, and you can find them in the new computer, under "my network places", and move them onto the new computer.
