I have an HP laptop that supports 802.11a/b/g. I have a 256 kbps ADSL broadband internet connection. How do I set up a wireless network at home so that I can access my Internet wirelessly? I have only a laptop and no other PC in my house. Should I buy a router or an access point? What is the difference? Will it make a difference if I buy a 802.11b instead of a 802.11g router?

I have DFS on windows 2000 servers.

3 replicas have been created but data is not being synchronised. So, the users are presently accessing the conventional shared folder, instead of DFS share.

All I wanted is the data is properly updated among all the replicas and the contents should be same. That was the purpose of using DFS share after all.

Please help

I recently found out that one of the room in my house have access to wifi. I've been using it since. Is that illegal? Plus, ONLY that particular room have access to wifi. No/weak wifi outside the room. Why? Is this common? Should i be weary about hidden cameras? The wifi's ip is AP00300A40CF6A. Anyone experience this before?

I have a desktop running xp home edition, a laptop running win 2000, and another laptop running win xp pro.
Both laptops have ethernet adapters and wireless cards. the desktop is not wireless, only ethernet. My home network was all working fine when I had it set up with a 4 port ethernet hub. I then wanted to be able to go wireless but am having trouble. My win2000 laptop is able to fileshare just fine with the desktop while wireless. But the winxp pro laptop is not able to fileshare with any of the other computers while wireless. The wireless network adapter seems to be working fine. It communicates ,has an ip address assigned to it,and works at public hotspots. IP's and workgroup names are set correctly. I can access the shared folders when I plug in an ethernet cable, but when wireless I get the message: "\\not accessible...might not have permission...network path not found"
I've tried turning off firewalls, using netbeui. nothing works. please help.

I have a Mac user that needs to have access to only one directory on my Windows 2003 Server, when we connect to the 2003 server using SMB on a mac, the user is able to view all of the shares and mount any of the shares. Is there a way so that when this user logs into the 2003 box from the Mac that only the one directory that he needs access to is available as a share for him to mount?

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4. I read this:

http://www.dvrplayground.com/article/12254/

and I was thinking if the same can be done with my BEFW11S4. When I googled "convert BEFW11S4 ethernet bridge", I normally just get sales pitches from different online stores, not a "how to" article.

Any answers or sites you provide will help with my research. Thanks.
