Computer Networking - July 2006

I have an older computer w/ and ethernet card (550 mghz) and an up to date laptop.

I'd like to set up a wireless network in my home. Can I install a wireless card in this older computer and have both computers essentially wireless to the internet? I'm concerned that a wireless card and/or router might have specific requirements which the older computer won't meet. Thanks.

i have a game i want to play with a friend and theres a network play setting in there. I was wondering if i could play with my friend which is on her computer at her house. we are not on the same network but is it possible to play together? i am using a router so would that affect my IP address if i were to be the server?

I am shopping for service that prosposes me the best deal on a package: fast internet connexion, satellite TV ...
I live in San Diego, and right now I use Cox cable for all that.
But I am not satisfy with the service and I don't mind to have satellite TV.
I can't use DSL for my internet connexion because it's not available in my area.

If you have suggestions concerning dealers that proposes this service, it will be great.
