You don't way if you laptop is already configured for wireless connections. So, while it is true you can purchase a new wireless router to replace the existing router you could also simply purchase a wireless access point. This would then allow you to connect your laptop.

If you laptop does not have any wireless devices you will need to also purchase the wireless card for your laptop.

Once you have the access point, be it a new router or a simply access point, I would recommend that you enable encryption, turn off SSID broadcast and enable MAC filtering.

Drop me a line once you have the devices if you need help with those items.

Sorry, but you will need a wireless router. That is what broadcast the wireless signal out to the computer. You would replace your current router with the wireless one, as it will also have connections for wired PCs. (Then sell the old one to a firend to help cover the cost of the new router).

You will also need a card (either PCI or USB) for the computer to pick up the wireless signal. It is recommended that you purchase a router and a wireless card of the same brand. Then they will be preconfigured to work with each other.

You will want to go with one that is 802.11G compatible, not the slower B. (Think G is good and B is bad). It will cost another $10, but will run 5 times faster.

And I got mine at Walmart too.
