If you have two or more wireless networks in range, can you connect your computer to more than one wireless network? If this is possible, how can you do that? For example, do you need some special software?

I have a laptop and a older desktop and am thinking of starting a wireless network. I'd like to put the desktop in another room as router and modem. Does my laptop have to be "wired" to the router and modem for the desktop to be wireless? or can both be wireless. Thanks in advance.

We have a training vendor who uses port 446 to allow people to securely sign up for their classes via the Internet. Port 446 is typically not used in today's world since it is for remote access to relational databases. Doesn't this appear to be an "improper" use of port 446? Is anyone familiar with correct or others uses of port 446?
