My son gradually brought a computer for my bedroom into the house. My computer has had problems since he did this. Could this wireless computer have an affect on the home one?

or subnet for each session?
In other words, is the MAC address public and clear?

If I know a MAC address of my stolen computer for example, could I go and find it? Or only if I worked for the FBI?

My desktop and laptop are connected to my router via wireless network. I am running shoutcast server on my desktop and the source is my laptop. I can connect via the IPs assigned by my router from one to the other, but if I try to connect from a PC outside the network I dont have a "real" IP to connect with.

I have a D-Link Wireless card that connects to my D-Link wireless router, and it can connect just fine, but any where from 5 minutes to 5 hours later, the connection will drop, but I will have done nothing to the router or wireless card in that time. Tech support has been no help at all, so can some one please help?

Side note- Both the wireless card and the router have the latest firmware updates.

When wired, it works just fine. Wirelessly, it doesn't work at all. I'm using AT&T Yahoo! DSL (with a 2WIRE base station). When trying to connect wirelessly, my computer says it has "a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet". No other computer around the house works wirelessly either. Help and tips appreciated. Thanks.

I have 3 wireless computers and a Playstation via network cable connected to my router. I am pretty sure my neighbours are using my internet through our shared wall. I'm not worried about super secure passwords or anything, I just need to stop your "average joe" from piggybacking my network. I have heard you can allow specific MAC addresses access to your network. How can I do this and allow a Playstation (not wireless and no MAC address as far as I know) to acess my network as well? Thanks!

I purchased a NETGEAR GS116 16-port 10/100/1000Mbps switch for $200, but then I realized that they were selling Netgear 24 port non-gigabit switches for $100. What's the difference?

Im trying to find info about setting up wireless network for a double story house, but on the net there's all this computer jargon that drives me insane. So if there's anyone who can clarify how to set up a wireless network I would be really great full.
