My desktop and laptop are connected to my router via wireless network. I am running shoutcast server on my desktop and the source is my laptop. I can connect via the IPs assigned by my router from one to the other, but if I try to connect from a PC outside the network I dont have a "real" IP to connect with.

The router is assigned a real IP address by your ISP. You can go into the router status screen to see what this address is.

To talk to your server through the router from the Internet, you need to use this address and setup a rule that lets the traffic through. On the router, this is usually setup as a port forwarding rule, but different routers may use other names for this. You need to know the port that shoutcast is using (default is 8000) and setup a rule to forward port 8000 to the internal IP address of the server PC (the IP assigned by the router to the server PC).

Are you running XP on both computers? If so, maybe try Windows Remote Desktop.

Also check your security settings - Start >> Control Panel > System > and check those different tabs - especial the "Remote" tab. You might not be allowing non-network users to connect.
