I installed a new Linksys 4port wireless router many months ago and I'm having a really bad connection (via ethernet cable) between the router and the modem. The cables haven't been touched since installed. Do cables degrade over time from use?

I have a Planet Broadband Router model XRT-401D connected to my cable modem. I normally have one computer on one of its LAN ports and also another router (a LinkSys WiFi G) that is on a different area of the house and connects to the first on by LAN to its WAN port.

Every thing was fine untill I powered down the whole system for a holliday trip. Now, When I try to run the computer conected to the first router (Planet) I get IP conflict and have to disconect the LAN cable to the second and run IPCONFIG/RELEASE and IPCONFIG/RENEW.

How can I avoid the IP conflict?

These are the LAN settings on the Planet router (the one connected to the cable modem):

LAN IP
IP Address : 192.168.0.1
IP Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
802.1d Spanning Tree : Disabled
DHCP Server : Enabled

Lease Time : Forever

DHCP Server
Start IP : 192.168.0.100
End IP : 192.168.0.200
Domain Name :

I have just set up my new small office and soon enough there will be another person in here. We have two computers and are using the same internet connection but we do not yet have a network set up to where we can access each other's files (my documents). I also need to be able to access the printer that is hooked up to the computer that the new employee will be using wirelessly. How do I go about doing that?

Right now I have a wired router attached to the cable modem, but I would like to add a wireless router for other devices. Is it possible with a cable modem connection? Please be as specific as possible and I'll choose you as best answer. Thanks.

Hi folks, i know this topic's probably been covered at great length but help it's driving me nuts!!
We have a cable modem, netgear router, 2 xp pc's. 1 with netgear wireless card, 1 with belkin wireless card. I've managed to get the main pc up and running but the 2nd one isn't playing fair. It's managed to connect to the router and says it's connected to the tinternet but when i try, comes up page not displayed. Router has no encryption. probably something simple like not checking a box but help would be good
