it is connecting to other people socially or professionally, and allowing those connections to enable you to meet other people in those circles.
Such as - I became a member of a professional technical society for my engineering major, I attended meetings and functions, which allowed me to meet other people in my field, and through those connections, I was able to know which companies were hiring and having met people who worked there, they took my resume to their office and got me lined up for an interview.

Networking in terms of computers is Sharing resources. If you have more than 1 computer at home or work place you can link each one of them and share your folders, files and also other peripherals i.e. printers etc
