I installed a new Linksys 4port wireless router many months ago and I'm having a really bad connection (via ethernet cable) between the router and the modem. The cables haven't been touched since installed. Do cables degrade over time from use?

Connection issues weren't an issue when i first installed the cable, the problem arose a couple days ago.

Not very often, but it does happen. Commonly this occurs when 1. the cable wasn't built quite right to begin with, and a poor connection goes bad.
2. moisture and other environmental variables corrode the endpoints, making a bad connection.
Most commonly, it's not a bad cable. Since there are no moving parts and the circuitry is huge compared to the internal wiring of routers, NIC cards, etc. A hardware fault other than the cable should be suspect. If it is a cable "fault", usually (99% of the time), the cable has just worked loose in the port, making it look like it's connected, when it really isn't (or only partially so). Physically pushing in both ends of cable, even when they "look" connected, usually solves the problem.

Theoretically maybe, but in reality no. Probably a software conflict somewhere in your system...trial and error is all I can suggest.

...been there, done that...more than I care to think about.

(Of course check the cable and connections for any really obviously bad kinks or maybe you knocked it loose somehow.)

not so easily ...check your pc and router settings ...either your pc has less of hard disk left ( make sure it has more than 1GB free at least )....
