the computer is originally from my office where there was a network, but I brought it home and it still thinks it is on the network. It asks me to log on which I can't do since I am not on the company network. How can I get in?

You need to log on to "This computer" click on options and it should reveal a box that changes where you log on to.

There are two ways.

1. Log on to the local administrator account. The company network admin can give you that password.

2. Log on with an account from the company network that had logged on while it was on the network. Windows caches the last 10 logons and will allow you to long on the the "network" even when not connected to the network. (I'm a network manager and travel with a laptop frequently. I log on to the network account even when I'm not on the network hundreds of times a year.)

There should be a small box that states "Workstation only". Check that. That should allow you to log in if you know the password to the workstation.

Depends on the network operating system. If it is a Windows domain then you can select "This computer" in the domain name area.

You need to create a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to your office.

if you don't need anything that's on the computer, you can always reformat the hard drive. Put in your windows disk and reboot from the CD to do it.
